October 2012

We have had a great time learning lots of things during the month of October.  We started out October with our pumpkin patch trip. We had a super trip and the weather was perfect! We have been learning about all kinds of things related to the fall season. We learned about leaves and different kinds of animals. Ask your children to tell you some facts about bats or spiders and I am sure you will amazed! Here are a few pictures of the things we have been doing in October.

We arrived at the pumpkin patch!

Eating Lunch

Playing around waiting for the hay wagon!

Riding the "Cow Train"

We learned that bats find their families by smell. We used scented cotton balls to find the members of our bat families!

We found who matched our smell!

We learned why spiders don't get stuck in their own webs. They have oil on their feet! We used tape and baby oil to pretend to be spiders and insects climbing on the web. So cool!

Mrs. Ables' caught a real garden spider and but it in the butterfly net for everyone to see. It had already made an egg sack. We cut it open and used the document camera to take a close look! We saw the spider's eggs!

Our spider for the week.

This is how it looked when we cut the egg sack open. So small that you could not really see anything but a small yellow ball wrapped in layers of spider silk.

We used the document camera to zoom in on the eggs!
